Is it legal to own a Compact Cruiser?

  • Yes:  It is legal under Federal Law. Mossberg Compact Cruiser is regulated under the National Firearms Act (NFA) which defines it as an Any Other Weapon (A.O.W.).  NFA firearms require special registration with the BATFE and are subject to a $5.00 tax.
  • The Mossberg Compact Cruiser has a barrel length of less than 18″ and overall length of less than 26″.  Users should not attach or change the stock to one designed to be fired from the shoulder or the weapon would be defined by the BATFE as a short barreled shotgun and the user could be charged with possession of an unregistered Short Barreled Shotgun.
